Sportmentary is a free, independent sports encyclopedia. Our goal is simple: explain how sports work in clear, beginner-friendly language, so anyone can learn a new game, understand what is happening on the field, or help a young athlete get started.
What you will find here
- Rules and scoring for more than 25 sports, from wrestling and field hockey to badminton and rugby.
- Positions, formations and strategy explained with tables and examples.
- Step-by-step technique guides and drills for players and coaches.
- Equipment, training and safety advice for athletes of every level.
How we research and update guides
- Rules content is checked against the official rulebooks of governing bodies, including the NFHS, NCAA, NHL, FIH, BWF, World Rugby and United World Wrestling.
- Every rules guide lists its sources at the bottom of the page.
- When a governing body changes its rules, we update the affected guides and note which season the rules apply to.
- Rules can differ between leagues, age groups and countries. We point out common differences, but always check with your league or association for local rules.
